I knew it - all of the talk from the Left in Alaska on Tea Party people didn't know how to spell; that was just a ruse by the Left to make you think the Tea Party was made of illiterates who are dumb as a bock of rocks - or something to that effect.
Well Lisa Murkowski has launched her first write-in ad and if I didn't know better, I'd say Sprocketheads and Andrew Halcro had their hands in this one.
While this ad may seem clever, what this ad really does is, it points to how absurd a write-in campaign is.
And then you have to ask how much will this write-in effort cost the State of Alaska and how the write-in votes will be tallied.
Because you have to look to see if Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse is beating Lisa Murkowski. And that is something Lisa Murkowski has to be concerned with.
Editor's note: I called the Alaska Division of Elections to see how they planned on counting the write-in ballots - they did not have an answer.
PETERSBURG-AK (2010-09-17) Alaska’s Democratic and Republican nominees for US Senate faced off for the first time during an event in Petersburg, Thursday morning. Scott McAdams and Joe miller answered questions at an annual meeting of Southeast Alaskan community and business leaders. As Matt Lichtenstein reports, the discussion kept coming back to the issue of federal earmarks
Knowing Halcro is involved behind the scenes in the Murkowski write-in campaign, look for Murkowski to throw political sucker punches that land below the belt.
Editor's note: To clarify, the event in Southeast Alaska was before the announcement on Friday - at the beginning of the week, Murkowski had made her decision to conduct a write-in and announce it on Friday. She knew prior to the debate that she would be entering the general election as write-in.
Just when you think it can't get any worse than Murkowski's decision to want to do a "do-over" in getting elected; she has decided to call on and use everybody she can, to get elected.
This includes lobbyists and the late Senator Ted Stevens.
FAIRBANKS — On Thursday, Sen. Lisa Murkowski announced a piece of legislation that honors late Sen. Ted Stevens by naming the South summit of Mount Hunter and the northern half of the Chugach Ice Field after him.
While ignoring the spirit of the intent found in the words of Senator Ted Stevens:
“ . . . I do hope that we can avoid electing people who would destroy another Republican in order to bring about personal success."
I don't know who the Miller campaign has doing their research, but they are getting real good at it and using it effectively.
Lisa Murkowski stated she wanted to take the gloves off and make history at the same time - she is certainly doing that by mocking the death of Senator Ted Stevens.
Instead of honoring Stevens through ice fields, Murkowski should have honored the words of Ted Stevens; because Stevens would have honored the will of the voters in the Republican primary, not his supporters.
A true leader would have told their supporters to follow Miller.
It is official, Senator Lisa Murkowski has decided to throw her political future away on a write-in campaign. And to those Murkowski supporters, as far as I am concerned, don't come back complaining when your candidate loses.
And to those who say game on - this is no game. This is more like a war that will leave you and your candidate left with nothing other than the lies that were told by Murkowski and bought by you.
As I had asked on Red County before: Will Lisa Murkowski Pull a Charlie Crist?
There I had answered a question in the comments section:
Party has a candidate. Their candidate would have to pull out of the race. If not then it would be a write in.
Update: Rich in answer to your question on Joe, he has just sent out a PR and at the bottom he stated:
On August 20, at the Kenai-Soldotna Chamber Forum, both Miller and Murkowski committed to respect the will of the people regarding the primary election results
I knew then, when I asked the question if Murkowski would seek a second shot at getting elected, she would not hold to her words on respecting the electorate and support the winner of the Republican primary.
Instead of honoring the pledge made, what the Senator is doing now is, she is using her supporters as a scapegoat for backing out on her pledge made to the public.
And because of Murkowski's dishonesty, there is also an interesting movement in some of Murkowski's supporters - make them former supporters who are now turning their Murkowski badges into Joe Miller badges and they are wearing them proudly.
Take one former Murkowski supporter Barbara Clinton, she will show you (in an environmentally sound manner) how to take your Lisa Murkowski badge and turn it into a Joe Miller badge.
I am here to tell you, these former Murkowski supporters are going to grow because they are starting to see the two faces of Lisa Murkowski: the liar who said she would respect the electorate but didn't and the liar who said she was a fiscal conservative when she never was.
I will have more on the Joe Miller press conference as I get the video I shot downloaded and incorporate it into another commentary, but in the meantime, Rick Small has posted a video that he took at the press event at the Miller HQ yesterday evening.
In closing, I had the chance to ask Joe about his stance on social security and I will talk about his response when I put together the story on David Haase who is running on the Libertarian ticket.
Jason Cline has been doing research on the Federal Reserve so we can address the concerns that Mr. Haase had, but I do know this from Mr. Haase, he was comfortable with Joe Miller's stances on many things; and Mr. Haase I would venture to say, at this point in time would support Joe if he were not running on the Libertarian ticket.
