A Tale of Two Cities: By Mike Doogan

An excerpt of Mike Doogan's speech to Democratic Party members in Fairbanks:

FAIRBANKS IS MY HOME TOWN. I WAS BORN HERE IN A HOSPITAL THAT NO LONGER EXISTS AND WENT TO SCHOOL IN A BUILDING THAT HAS MOSTLY BEEN REPLACED. FOR MUCH OF THAT TIME, MY FAMILY LIVED ON EIGHTH AVENUE IN A HOUSE THAT IS NO LONGER THERE. AS A KID I SOLD NEWSPAPERS IN BARS ON SECOND AVENUE THAT ARE GONE, SHOPPED AT THE CO-OP WHEN IT WAS STILL A DRUG STORE AND WENT TO MOVIES AT THE EMPRESS AND LACEY STREET THEATERS, WHICH ARE ONLY FOND MEMORIES NOW.YOU GET THE PICTURE.

It is interesting to see a politician play to a crowd. It seems Mike has two "hometowns." Anchorage and Fairbanks.
