To the delight of the crowd Thursday night, McCain and Palin entered through a cutout outline of the state, tracing the edge of the arena - where spotlights had just criss-crossed the floor - to a stage set in front of a bank of seats, below giant U.S. and Wisconsin flags.
The bowl of the Resch Center, which seats about 11,000 people, was nearly full. An additional 1,000 or so people stood on the floor, many waving signs such as "The Original Mavericks" and "Wisconsin loves McCain."
